OHLONE YOUTH SUMMIT - MONTEREY COUNTY, CA
|
For the past four years the CRCT has been hosting the Ohlone Youth Summit in Monterey California to provide Ohlone youth a two-week learning and camping adventure on their ancestral homelands. Daily hands on learning and cultural activities are planned in collaboration with local Monterey organizations including the Santa Lucia Preserve, The Elkhorn Slough Reserve, The Carmel Mission, and The Monterey Aquarium.
Here at the Costanoan Rumsen Carmel Tribe youth get the chance to partake in several different types of enrichment activities related to their culture with the help of Monterey Regional Parks, Local Preserves and Outward Bound Adventures. From winter campouts to seasonal mountain retreats, youth learn the importance of cultural history, ecology, general biology, and environmental issues among other things. From the get go, these youth are made aware that their place in CRCT (and the world!) is important and they matter. The activities make it clear that they are the future and will one day go on to be the next generations leaders! |
