Ohlone Days is when all the Ohlone groups come together and celebrate being Ohlone. There are cultural presentations and exhibits, such as how to start a fire with traditional implements, cooking acorns, making clapper sticks, and the like. A lot of the local schools and colleges from the area come, so the educational aspect makes up a big part of Ohlone Days.
We went – the Humaya Dancers – to dance; it wasn’t just us dancing but us explaining the dances. We invited everyone to dance with us and learn a few moves, as seen below.
It was a fun and educational event – once again showing people that the Ohlone are here and we are strong.
P.S. There is a video of us dancing that someone at the park shot. Its called Traditional Ohlone Dancing on Youtube. Follow this link to watch: https://www.youtube.com/user/MountainParksFND
